Question: What are Harrison Training Group doing in regards to the New Qualification release?
- We can confirm that Harrison Training Group will be focusing on teaching out the TAE40116 qualification (only) during the teach out period allocated (throughout 2023 and late 2024). This is due to the TAE40116 being deemed equivalent (the same as) the new TAE40122 which will take significantly longer to complete.
- For all who hold the current TAE40116 there is no requirement for you to upgrade to the new TAE40122 (They are equivalent)
- For all who have a TAE40110 and want to upgrade to the TAE40116 HTG will be offering the below programs online to complete before the current teach out period finishes.
- If you hold the TAE40110 and want the TAE40116 please see below Chart or click here.to access an Upgrade Chart to see what you need to do to attain the TAE40116 before the teach out period finishes.

TAE40116 – Extension of implementation date for new trainer and assessor credential requirements to 1 July 2019
Updated credential requirements for trainers and assessors set out in the Standards for Registered Training Organisations (RTOs) 2015 were due to take effect on 1 April 2019, bringing the requirements in line with 2016 changes to the Training and Education Training Package.
Recent feedback from the vocational education and training (VET) sector showed that trainers and assessors at some RTOs may not have met the new requirements by 1 April 2019, due to the increased number of trainers and assessors accessing gap training. This resulted in some RTOs being unable to keep up with demand to assess and issue relevant documentation by that date.
In response to this feedback, Skills Ministers agreed to delay the introduction of these requirements to 1 July 2019, so that trainers and assessors can continue to train while undertaking gap training for a further three months. The Standards for RTOs have been amended accordingly. Please note that no further extensions to the new credential requirements will be made.
Am I up to date with my Training and Assessment qualification?
To be entitled to work as a trainer in the VET sector a trainer must hold a minimum of the TAE40110 Certificate IV in Training and Assessment from the TAE10 Training and Education Training Package (or its successor – the TAE40116) (or) be able to demonstrate equivalence of competencies as a minimum. See below section taken from the Standards for Registered Training Organisations (RTOs) Amendment & www.education.gov.au website. This also means now that before an individual can commence or continue training activities they must complete (or) upgrade their previous training qualification(s) if they currently hold the superseded BSZ40198 (or) TAE40104 qualifications.
Q: What are the requirements from 1 July 2019 for trainers and assessors?
This means that anyone wishing (or) currently delivering training and assessment (formally) must ensure that;
From 1 July 2019, to be compliant with the Standards all trainers and assessors must have:
- the TAE40116 Certificate IV in Training and Assessment, OR
- the TAE40110 Certificate IV in Training and Assessment, plus:
- either TAELLN411 Address adult language, literacy and numeracy skills, or its successor, or TAELLN401A Address adult language, literacy and numeracy skills, and
- either TAEASS502 Design and Develop Assessment Tools, or its successor, or TAEASS502A Design and Develop Assessment Tools, or TAEASS502B Design and Develop Assessment Tools, OR
- a diploma or higher level qualification in adult education.
Some trainers and assessors who hold the TAE40110 may have completed one or more of the relevant units as electives or as part of ongoing professional development. If trainers and assessors do not currently hold the relevant units, they will need to complete them before 1 July 2019 to meet the new requirements.
